Dapur

Web Design and Branding for Malaysian Restaurant

Scroll Down

Dapur brings the authentic Malaysian dining experience to Central London, with restaurants in Holborn and the Berjaya Eden Park Hotel in Bayswater. The Holborn restaurant has been serving happy customers for more than five years.

The opening of the new restaurant in Bayswater represented a big leap for Dapur. While Dapur’s Holborn eatery is only open for lunch on weekdays, the Bayswater restaurant is open all day every day. Also, it’s located in a hotel, although non-hotel guests are welcome to dine there too.

The Challenge

To coincide with the opening of the new restaurant in Bayswater, Dapur’s Founder, Sharizah Hashim, paid March a visit. She wanted a refreshed restaurant website design that would showcase the new location and appeal to their expanded target audience of foodies, travellers and local Malaysians (further reading: The Benefits of a Website Redesign)

Dapur brings you the unique and authentic taste of Malay food using fresh and locally-sourced seasonal produce. No frills – just honest, good food.

The new website needed to fit in with Dapur’s value proposition:

It also needed to have online booking functionality.

Oh, and it all had to be finished in two weeks!

No problem!

Dapur Branding

The Process

We researched motivational factors for Dapur’s new target audience. We looked at the kind of website layouts and colour schemes that dedicated foodies respond well to. We decided we wanted to present Dapur in Bayswater as a destination, not just a restaurant.

The colour scheme we chose fitted in well with Dapur’s existing logo. The restaurant website design we created was sleek and modern, but still in keeping with the authenticity of traditional Malaysian dining.

We presented initial designs to the client, so they could see how the site would be laid out. The client loved our ideas and approved them straight away!

The next step was to develop the site using WordPress. To enable customers to make reservations online, we added a booking form, which would also notify front-of-house staff about advance bookings as they happen.

The Solution

We designed a beautiful, fully mobile-responsive website, with online booking functionality, in time for the opening of the new Dapur Berjaya Eden Park restaurant.

Dapur also asked us to design new menus for the restaurant, with posters and flyers to promote the opening.

The website has been a great success. We connected the site with Dapur’s Instagram, which has a large number of followers. It’s great to see the homepage being continually updated with pictures of Dapur’s gorgeous food.

The restaurant even received a visit from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, when he was in London!
