Self Space was founded in 2017 as the world’s first on-demand mental health service on the high street.
The service was set up by therapists Jodie Cariss and Chance Marshall who believe that “everyday mental maintenance” is an essential part of not just surviving, but thriving.
Their driving vision is to make therapy as ubiquitous as gyms and to have a practice on every high street across the UK.
The
Challenge
The key goal for Self Space was to establish itself as a challenger brand within a traditional sphere without alienating its core audience.
The brand needed to be memorable and relatable, and its website had to allow private and corporate customers to book sessions with their preferred therapist quickly and easily.
The
Solution
Self Space features warm and welcoming pastel colours, complemented by a plainspoken logotype design.
Created with illustrator Hannah Alice, imagery such as zen stones and yoga poses were deliberately avoided due to their tired and clichéd nature within the sector, and simple iconography was embraced.
In 2024, March redeveloped the therapist website in Elementor.
Self Space’s team was expanding at pace, and the website needed to allow marketing executives the flexibility to create and publish new content quickly. Elementor facilitates this through its simple but powerful interface.
Drawing inspiration from the impactful campaigns crafted by the Self Space team, March translated their vision into digital experiences on the website.
The new sections, including Open Letters, celebrated and amplified the brand’s unique aesthetic, all while ensuring that the tone, visuals, and messaging remained consistent.
Gentle transitions and animations of the icons and logo were added into the therapist’s website to promote a feeling of calm and peace to new and returning visitors.
Other new features include a Careers section that integrates with Monday.com and an Events section that integrates with EventBrite, streamlining workflow and admin for HR and Sales teams.
March also built a new Shopify e-commerce store to enable Self Space to sell its branded products.
The Results
Self Space is an extraordinary success story. Since its launch, it has expanded from a small room in Shoreditch to five locations with over 200 therapists.
Automation on the new website has given time back to the Self Space team, allowing them to focus on what they do best: helping people manage their mental health.
The site has a strong SEO presence and consistently ranks in the top 3 on Google for its primary key phrases.
